Mrs. Shepherd's
History Tribute Project

The purpose of this project is to create something that demonstrates a tribute to a specific moment in history. Your project can focus on any moment in history that you choose. You can also choose any way that you wish to create your tribute. I have provided a few ideas for you; however, these suggestions are not meant to limit you but rather be the stepping stone into your creativity. If you do choose to come up with your own idea, I would suggest that you come talk to me about your idea so we can talk about how it will work. Good luck and be creative!

Project Due Dates
*DATES ARE ESTIMATIONS AND ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE!*

Proposals:
First Semester: October 24
Second Semester: March 20

Projects:
First Semester: December 16
Second Semester: May 21

Project Ideas:
Biography: Choose a historical figure, preferably someone we have not studied. Research your person to find out when they lived and how they influenced history. How might the past have been different if this person had never existed? Would the present be different? How? Write a two page essay presenting your person's life and analyzing their contributions to the world's history.
Movie: Watch a movie that is based on a historical event. Write a two page essay comparing and contrasting the interpretation given in the movie with an analysis of the evidences for what really happened for this event. A list of approved movies that students may choose from is available or students may come up with their own movie not on this list. Students must approve movies with me and with their parents.
Novel: Read a historical fiction novel. Pay attention to the similarities and differences within the historical event that your book covers. Write a one page analysis on whether you felt this book helps further history or impedes it. A list of approved books will be available for students to choose from. This is not an absolute list, so if a student has something they wish to read not on the list they may. All books must be approved by me and a parent.
Creativity: Create something relating to a moment in history. (i.e. drawing, sculpture, model, movie, song, poster, etc.)

Project Proposal How To
Mrs. Shepherd's History Tribute Project

Format:
• Write a half to one page proposal
• 12 point
• Times New Roman
• Double-spaced
• One inch margins

What to Include:
• What event in history you are doing (Topic)
• What your project is (making a model, a movie, etc.)
• How you will complete your project
• Why you chose your topic and your project
• How long you expect your project to take

Sample:
For my history tribute project, I chose to complete my project about the Battle of Bunker Hill that took place during the American Revolution. To depict this event, I am going to make a scale model of the battle.
I chose this topic because I really like the American Revolution. I also really like the phrase, "Don't shoot until you see the whites of their eyes" which was giving by an American officer when the Patriots were running out of ammunition. I will first look up pictures of the Battle of Bunker Hill and do some research on the internet to help me complete my model. My model will have a hill that will represent Bunker Hill. I will also have the Boston Harbor on my model which will just be blue paint. I then will use figurines (probably army men) to represent the men in the battle. The British soldiers I am going to spray paint red to depict them as being "red coats". In order to include the famous order I'm going to paint the eyes on the British soldiers so that they are white. I expect my project to take me a full week if I break it up and work on it for half an hour every night.
